PHOENIX ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCER
  PHOENIX ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCER

Phoenix Inspection Systems is a leading independent supplier of ultrasonic non-destructive testing solutions serving sectors such as energy, aerospace, process industries and rail.

Phoenix ISL supply an extensive range of NDT products and services is offered, including standard and special range ultrasonic transducers for most applications, automatic and semi-automatic inspection systems and manipulators for weld, turbine and corrosion mapping; feasibility studies, project management and consultancy services. Leading operators around the world rely on Phoenix products for accuracy and reliability. All products are designed with ease of use and flexibility in mind, and the inclusion of the latest technologies offers the potential for cost savings and improved efficiency.

Transducers
Phoenix’s high performance ultrasonic transducers are reliable, reproducible and cost-effective and all are made to quality standards such as EN12668, BS EN ISO 9001:2001, ESI, DIN, AWS and ASTM. See also our range of special transducers.

SHEAR WAVE

Single/Twin Crystal

The single and twin crystal range of shear wave transducers is ideal for the general purpose testing of welds, plate, pipe tubing, castings and forgings.

Gold Series

Phoenix developed the gold series transducer to offer superior performance for the discerning user. The internal design has been modified and with the use of an interface layer gives significant improvements in performance.

COMPRESSION WAVE

Single Crystal

Single crystal compression wave transducers are available with either a ceramic or resin face and designed for testing rough, cast or pitted surfaces or highly abrasive materials whenever both good sensitivity and resolution are required.

Twin Crystal

Twin crystal compression wave probes are suitable for use on corroded and pitted surfaces, thickness measurement, brazed joint testing and lamination detecting. High gain and resolution are achieved with a very low cross-talk.

Corrosion Mapping

Standard and high temperature corrosion mapping transducers complement the compression wave probe range and are housed in a durable steel case with side entry connections which enable the fitting of a detachable tracking facility.

High Temperature

The latest range of high temperature transducers is suitable for long-term contact, and can be used on components and plant without the need to cool surfaces to ambient temperatures. Phoenix HT transducers can operate at 150 to 300°C for long periods with no deterioration in performance.

TOFD

Phoenix offers a full range of transducers designed specifically for TOFD applications. They are available with integral or demountable wedges and in standard ceramic or piezocomposite materials.

SPECIAL TRANSDUCERS

Phoenix ultrasonic probes are used by industries worldwide, from nuclear and power generation to oil, gas and transport. Here is a small selection of our special probes. See also our extensive standard range or we can manufacture to your individual requirements.

Creepwave probes
Specially designed for the detection of near surface or surface-breaking defects where access is obscured by external features. Creepwave probes use longtitudinal surface waves to overcome access restrictions.

Twin-angle compression probe
The use of focused longtitudinal waves gives improved defect resolution and sizing on thick sections or difficult to inspect materials such as austenitic steel.

Tandem probe

A 70 degree longwave probe used to generate ID creepwaves and a tandem twin crystal longwave, both used for bi-modal detection sizing of defects.

Bore probes

This family of probes is available in a wide range of angles, frequencies and diameters to suit any inspection where access is available only via the bore. Ideal for wheel axles or smaller tubular sections, bore probes can be customised to suit your particular needs.

Tie bar probes

Created specially for the inspection of tie bars, these immersion-type probes offer high sensitivity combined with medium pulse length. The acoustically matched lens makes for optimum performance. Tie bar probes are designed to fit and operate within the existing rotary head. Made to withstand high pressures, they have precisely matched performance.

ROBULK probe

Ideal for large area corrosion mapping, this rotating ultrasonic probe scans a 360° area of plate from a fixed location, enabling the production of ‘radar map’ of its surrounds. Designed for testing storage tanks, it can be used for the inspection of any large areas of metal plate.

Thermocouple pocket probe

A pair of probes designed to take thickness measurements from within a thermocouple pocket in areas of high radiation and temperatures up to 170°C.

The two 10MHz 2mm diameter probes are diametrically opposed and axially displaced. Positioned close to the tip head, they permit a manual scan of the thermocouple pocket from a safe distance.

Thermotool inspection probe

Designed for areas with difficult access and limited probe contact, this 4MHz 10mm crystal, 45° shear wave probe has a detachable arm for the manual inspection of tubular parts. This design philosophy can be readily adapted to similar applications where access is restricted.
